2019 International Trade Research Frontier Training of College of Business

From June 22 to 23, 2019 International Trade Research Frontier Training of College of Business, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics was held in the lecture hall on the second floor of College of Business. This is the 13th consecutive year that College of Business have held this training course.

 

Over the past 13 years, the summer training program has invited many famous scholars from top universities and research institutions in Europe and the United States as teaching professors. The training attracted more than 100 young teachers and graduate students from universities and research institutions across the country.

2019 International Trade Research Frontier Training of College of Business, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics lasted for two days and invited four famous professors at home and abroad as teaching guests. They are: Professor Samuel Kortum of Yale University, Professor Kim Ruhl of the University of Wisconsin, Professor Meredith Crowley of Cambridge University and Professor Jiandong Ju of Tsinghua University.

Firstly, she talked about the current trade friction between China and the United States and WTO reform, including the root cause, cost of trade friction and its impact on the WTO-centered international trade order. Then she introduced the research on how the price and profit setting of enterprises are affected by the changes of multilateral exchange rate under the background of globalization. At the end, she shared her views on future international multilateral trade cooperation and long-term economic development.

Firstly, he explained the important position and role of dynamic model in modern international trade theory and empirical research. Then he introduced the theoretical and empirical research on the micro dynamic model of international trade from the perspective of the fixed cost of enterprises entering the export market, enterprise efficiency and external impact by external environment (exchange rate). The focus is the dynamic choices of enterprises’ exports and their macro impact of international trade and national welfare.

He analyzed the barriers related to international trade from three aspects, including the obstacles of variable cost (tariff, freight, etc.), the obstacles of fixed cost (advertising expenses, etc.), the obstacles of search cost (the cost of the buyer and the seller to find the right trading partner). Based on the Poisson distribution in statistics, he focused on the impact of search cost on trade-related variables.

He mainly introduced his own research and views in three aspects: first, on the formation of Asian Community among East Asian and Southeast Asian countries and on the assumption of establishing a Tripartite Confrontation global governance system with the United States, Germany and China as the center, with the participation of North America, Europe and Asia; second, on the theoretical research of bilateral conflicts, which is used to analyze the current Sino-US trade conflicts; third, the judgment of the long-term impact of the Sino-US trade conflict and the long-term trend of the development of Sino-US relations.

The training not only showed the latest research results in the field of international trade and investment, but also promoted academic exchanges in universities and international trade fields at home and abroad. Participants said that the training helps domestic researchers to understand and grasp the cutting-edge trends of the discipline in time, to expand their academic horizons and to improve their research capabilities. At the same time, years of high-quality training have also created a national and even international good reputation for the college's international trade direction. College of Business will further promote the development of the training program in the future and promote the improvement of the national faculty in discipline of international trade and investment and the cultivation of high-end talents.

International Trade Research Frontier Training of College of Business, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics is one of the summer training programs in the three fields of international trade, industrial economy and international finance by College of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
