One of the highlights of the press conference was the keynote speech entitled "great changes -- based on the perspective of global supply chain, industrial chain and value chain" brought by Professor Wei Hang, associate executive dean of College of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and director of MBA center. Good afternoon, everyone!
First of all, on behalf of the College of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, I would like to welcome you to this conference. Today's conference is quite special, and I'll meet you on line.
A few days ago, Mr. Buffett did the same at the global shareholders' meeting in 2020, facing more than 1000 empty seats below. Thanks to technology, in this special period of global epidemic outbreak, the form of our speech has changed. Maybe in the near future, it can be realized through virtual form, that is, according to the content of the speaker's past speech, through lighting and other equipment, the image will be presented to you in the form of artificial intelligence VR. Our "great change" may have just begun.
The topic I want to share with you today is "great change: from the perspective of global value chain, industrial chain and supply chain". What are the three major changes we are facing, what are the causes of our current situation, and why we are faced with great changes.
When President Xi Jinping attended the BRICs conference in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2018, he delivered an important speech to conform to the trend of the times and achieve common development. In his speech, President Xi pointed out that the world is facing a great change in the past century.
1、 A bad impression of China
From March 3 to March 29, 2020, Pew Research Center of the United States conducted a survey on American adults. It was found that nearly two thirds of American respondents had negative comments on China as a whole, and only 26% had positive comments. However, if we pull up such a time point, we can clearly see the negative and positive changes from 2006 to 2020.
In the five years from 2005 to 2010, the proportion of respondents with negative impression of China in the United States was basically at about one third. From 2010 to 2017 and 2018, it was about 50%. It has risen rapidly in the last three years and reached 66% this year. Even more frightening is that 90% of US respondents see China's rise as a very big threat. Therefore, it can be seen from this that the American respondents' feelings about China have changed from relatively positive or most positive in the past to about two-thirds of the respondents' negative feelings towards China.
2、 Fatal China
In 2011, Peter Navarro, director of the U.S. Council of international trade advisors, published a book called "death by China", in which the change was called fatal China. When promoting this book, Navarro used a very terrible and bloody propaganda picture: a dagger was inserted into the heart of the United States. The handle of the dagger used the image of 100 yuan, and the blade was written with "made in China". We can see the bloody degree of this propaganda and its negative impact on China.
Navarro has a total of three books with a negative attitude towards China. As early as 2011, he has started such publicity and has such understanding. So how does trump evaluate the book? He said, "I was impressed by the clarity of the argument, the careful research. He has a visionary record of the damage that globalism has done to American workers and has pointed a way to the revival of our middle class. It describes the problems we have with China, and I strongly recommend reading it. "
Peter Navarro's "fatal China" argument has a special audience in the United States. You can see that Peter Navarro's heat curve at Google from 2015 to 2020 is going up all the way. His views have formed a lot of adverse effects, which is also a very troublesome thing for China.
3、 Pressure on China
If the negative feelings in front of us and the fatal China are still only on the point of view, then when the situation changes, we can clearly feel that the United States is using this sentiment to pressure China. It is very obvious that the Sino-US trade dispute in 2018 started from President Trump's signing of a memorandum to impose tariffs on imports from China until 2019, as many restrictive measures were taken against Huawei. It can be seen from this that the U.S. government has taken measures from trade to technology to finance, and may even continue to put pressure on China in energy and other fields in the future.
Fortunately, there is still some consensus between the two countries. The two countries also called us two days before 2020 to better implement the economic and trade agreement. But such pressure is becoming more and more obvious to China, and the situation we are facing as a whole will become more severe. So the third way for the United States is to pressure China.
4、 Evacuate from China
Fourth, we can see that the new epidemic has had a very important impact on the world. As of today, May 10, 2020, who statistics 214 countries and regions have reported new coronavirus infection, more than 4 million confirmed cases, and more than 280000 deaths worldwide. Because of the global impact of the new epidemic, China will face more challenges in the fields of economy and manufacturing.
On April 10, 2020, the chief adviser of the White House in the United States called on the United States that American enterprises in China should consider Evacuating from China, and the U.S. government should provide full relocation expenses. In addition to the United States, Japan is making the same plan. A variety of politicians are talking about China's central position and huge role in the global supply chain, which gives them a certain degree of uncertainty and brings a new perspective - withdrawal.
1、 One earth
The community of shared destiny for mankind should be the core point of current publicity to the outside world - we are all together. We need to work together to promote our economic community, political community, cultural community, and community of life and health. In terms of politics, we should respect each other and consult on an equal footing; in terms of security, we should adhere to dialogue to resolve disputes and resolve differences through consultation; economically, we should work together in the same boat to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation; culturally, we should respect the diversity of world civilizations; in terms of ecology, we should adhere to environmental friendliness and cooperate to deal with climate change. Only in this way can China obtain the support of most countries in the process, and form the values with Chinese characteristics, and solve some hostile or unfriendly behaviors through this process. Through the core concept of "one earth", let us know that we are on the same boat and we should help each other in the same boat.
2、 Two wings flying together
We should actively promote the Belt and Road Initiatives. This is a crucial strategy for China's future development. Because we have the Pacific Ocean to the East and a huge hinterland to the West. The Belt and Road is the core of our destiny community. China has a very good export capacity and industrial development ability, and this strategy can better realize China's development welfare and industrial development space.
3、 Three magic weapons
First of all, we should unswervingly adhere to reform and opening up, promote reform through reform and opening up, and promote development through reform and opening up. Opening up is to let us do things by using the universal rules, to reform some institutional obstacles encountered in the process of our development, and then to promote China's development in the next stage; secondly, we should maintain our determination, even in the difficult situation we are facing now, we still need to maintain this kind of determination and do a good job of self-reliance For our own business, we should improve our industrial ability and economic development ability through active innovation; finally, we should be prepared for danger in times of safety and pay attention to risk prevention. We hope to accumulate grain widely, dig deep, and not seek hegemony - this is what Chairman Mao once taught us. For the current situation, I think this kind of risk prevention is more meaningful.
