The 2023 Shanghai Marketing Forum | "Marketing Scientific Practice and Innovation in the New Journey of China-style Modernization" Summit

The "Marketing Science Practice and Innovation in the New Journey of China-style Modernization" Summit was successfully held on March 18-19, 2023 at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Professor Li Zengquan, Vice President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics opened the ceremony and delivered a speech, expressing his welcome to the experts present. He offered a brief introduction to the school's business management discipline and pointed out  current market status about marketing scientific practice and innovation are just in time. Additionally, he proposed solutions to new challenges and ideas of the new development pattern. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Gao Weihe, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Marketing Association and Deputy Director of the Development Planning Department of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

The forum was divided into four sub-forums including 18 themed speeches. The scholars introduced their teaching and research achievements related to the cross-disciplinary innovation of marketing following Chinese-style modernization.  They presented the innovation on marketing education and industry.

In the century-long history of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, the marketing discipline has played relatively an important role. In 1954, the ‘Marketing’ course was set up majoring  "Trade Economics". In 1995, the Department of Marketing was officially established, and in 1998, the ‘Marketing’ designed as a major for undergraduate program was officially set up. In 2002, the Marketing doctoral program was launched making it one of the earliest universities in China. The forum was jointly convened by the College of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the Shanghai Marketing Association. The event was co-organized by the Shanghai Data Technology and Decision-making Frontiers Scientific Research Base, as well as the Shanghai Finance and Economics Review, Foreign Economics, and Management, and Financial Higher Education Research.


The Shanghai Marketing Association (SMA) was established in 1987. It is a social organization composed of experts and scholars engaged in marketing theory research and senior executives of enterprises. Former Shanghai Mayor Wang Daohan served as the honorary president of the association. The association provide services to society in theoretical research, academic seminars, consulting services, talent training, book editing, and international collaboration.
