The public welfare science outreach event titled " Gathering at SUFE, Conversations on Health", co-hosted by the Shanghai Tongxin Medical Voice Alliance and the College of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (COB, SUFE), with special support from the Asian Financial Cooperation Alliance, Shanghai Jinsinan Financial Research Institute and other institutions, was held in the Lecture Hall on the Second Floor of the COB. The event brought together experts from medicine, finance, academia and other fields to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as public health education, climate change and health, and weight management. It aimed to raise public health literacy and promote the integration of the concepts of healthy living and sustainable development.
Dr. Li Ming from the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Tenth People's Hospital of Shanghai, one of the initiators of the Tongxin Medical Voice Alliance, introduced the founding aspiration and development of the alliance. He mentioned that since its establishment, the alliance has always upheld the principles of "Charity for Public Good, Openness and Inclusion, Collaborative Partnership, and Shared Commitment to Health ". By bringing together experts from multiple top-tier hospitals in Shanghai, the Alliance has transformed professional medical knowledge into accessible health actions for the public through various forms such as science lectures, free medical consultations and health-themed talk shows, contributing to the improvement of public health literacy.
During the health science outreach session, Dr. Gao Peng, Director of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Tenth People's Hospital of Shanghai delivered an engaging and accessible talk on dry eye syndrome, a common condition among office workers. Using vivid and humorous language, he combined clinical cases to explain the causes, prevention, and treatment of dry eye syndrome, and reminded the public to practice scientific eye care, avoid blindly using trendy over-the-counter eye drops, and instead protect eye health through natural methods such as warm compresses and improved screen-use habits.
Subsequently, Vice President Yin Binbin of the Shanghai Jinsinan Financial Research Institute shared insights on the topic "Climate Change and Health: How Green Finance Guards Future Health". With detailed data and case studies, he emphasized that green finance, by supporting sectors such as energy transition, green transportation, and low-carbon buildings, not only contributes to carbon reduction but also indirectly enhances public health outcomes—achieving a win–win outcome for both the environment and human well-being.
The roundtable forum centered on the theme “Annual Health Action for Weight Management” was hosted by Director Li Ming, with the participation of many experts including Sun Lihao from the Department of Endocrinology of Ruijin Hospital, Lu Hao from the Department of Cardiology of Zhongshan Hospital, and Wu Peng from the Department of Orthopedics of the Tenth People's Hospital of Shanghai. The guests discussed the scientific methods and social significance of weight management from the perspectives of metabolic disorders, cardiovascular health and sports injuries, and emphasized the importance of early prevention and interdisciplinary collaboration in the prevention and control of chronic diseases.
The successful hosting of the “Gathering at SUFE, Conversations on Health” public welfare event not only responded to the call of the "Healthy China" strategy, promoting scientific health concepts and the spirit of public service both on and off campus, but also provided authoritative health knowledge to faculty, students, alumni, and members of the wider community. At the same time, it created a cross-disciplinary communication platform that further advanced the integration of health-oriented public welfare initiatives and green, sustainable development principles. In the future, the COB will continue to leverage the "Health and Wellness +" Club of the Alumni Association to deepen cooperation with professionals from various fields. By normalizing health science outreach and sustaining public welfare initiatives, COB aims to contribute its expertise in finance and management to improving public health literacy and supporting sustainable social development.
