摘要:Variation in clinical and operational decisions among health care professionals is well documented. The impact of these variations have significant consequences to operational efficiency, cost and perhaps most importantly the quality of care. We study one such variation, i.e., admissions decisions by emergency department physicians in 4 hospitals. We explore the underlying reasons for these variations using both a theoretical stochastic control model as well as a behavioral decision model.   In doing so, using the framework of prospect theory, we devise a compact, robust and easy to use parameter elicitation procedure that fits the relevant parameters of an individual decision maker. We compare our procedure across other well-known but more cumbersome methods. Using our estimates, we explore several intervention strategies and test them using ongoing field experiments.
