今天是一个“三喜临门”的日子。
It’s very delightful to see you all here for the 17th MBA Graduation Ceremony of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Webster University.
It is a good day today. Today, we have three grand events—the 17th MBA Graduation Ceremony, SUFE IMBA Alumni Association Establishment, and Webster University Centennial Cocktail Party.
首先，祝贺今天披上学位袍的毕业生们，都说梅花香自苦寒来，一边是繁忙的工作，一边是艰苦的学习，作为院长和老师，我非常能够体会你们的不容易。学位袍首先是对你们过去两年辛勤付出的嘉奖，也是对支持你们的亲友和悉心指导你们的老师们最好的回报，同时，学位袍也是一袭战袍。今天，在中国进入新常态时期，你们将面临前所未有的挑战和机遇。我衷心希望，学位袍所代表的知识和力量能够在新的征程中带给你们勇气、智慧力量，祝愿你们在顺境中一往无前、攻无不克，在逆境中从容淡定、百折不挠！母校的老师们期待你们的好消息！
First of all, congratulations to the 17th MBA graduates! As a proverb goes, “bitter cold adds keen fragrance to plum blossom.” You have been making great efforts to balance your hard work and academic life. As a dean and teacher, I am fully aware what you have been through. The academic gown is the award for your hard work over the past two years as well as the biggest reward to the professors guiding you and the beloved ones supporting you. Meanwhile, academic gown is like the arm equipping you with power and energy. Now it is a new era for China, in which period you will be faced with unpredictable challenges and unprecedented opportunities. I sincerely hope that the academic gown filled with knowledge and power will bring you courage, wisdom and strength in the new journey. May you be all-conquering, invincible in prosperity, be determined and indomitable in adversity! Remember, back in Alma mater, we are all looking forward to your good news!
第二，今天也是中外合作MBA项目校友会成立的大喜日子，在过去的19年中，这个项目为中国和世界培养了近2000名高级管理人员，校友们在各行各业做出了骄人的成绩，足以告慰一直牵挂着你们的母校。校友会既是各位校友同舟共济的精神家园，也为各位校友提供了终身学习的渠道。我衷心希望，校友会能够凝聚同学情谊，将校友们关爱后学、回馈母校的精神不断发扬光大，让“厚德博学、经济匡时”的校训成为校友们终生的追求。
Secondly, congratulations on the establishment of SUFE IMBA Alumni Association. In the past 19 years, nearly 2000 outstanding graduates have made great contributions to China’s economic and social development. Your fabulous achievements in all walks of life have been a great reward to us. The Alumni Association is not only the spiritual home for all fellow alumni, but also a channel of lifelong study. I sincerely hope that, our graduates can reunite in the Alumni Association, making it a place to attach importance to life learning, carrying forward the spirit of rewarding Alma mater. As a SUFER, we need to keep our motto in mind, “Revere virtue and broaden the knowledge, lead with expertise to serve the society” and make the university proud of you.
第三，我要对长期支持项目发展的合作伙伴——Webster大学即将到来的百年华诞送上我衷心的祝福。100年前，一群令人崇敬的洛雷托修会的修女们创办了这所大学，她们以仁爱和慈悲的胸怀，致力于扶助边疆贫困儿童的教育使命，并在随后的100年中，将教育内容、方式不断创新，将教育对象不断拓展。今天的韦伯斯特大学，已经成为校区遍布全球，教育质量得到公认的非宗教性大学。无独有偶，差不多同一时期，中国社会哀鸿遍野、民生凋敝，面临着由封闭、封建、落后向开放、独立、自强转型的历史转折时期。上财的创校先贤们，以近乎于宗教信仰般的实业救国情怀，于艰难困苦、百端待兴之中创办了上海商科大学，历经沧桑，发展到今天成为了上海财经大学，再过两年，上海财经大学也将迎来自己的百年华诞。19年前，两校携手合作，启动了这个中外合作项目，成为中国MBA教育史上标志性的里程碑之一，并于2002年获得国家教育部的教学成果奖。展望未来，我衷心希望并且相信，两所百年名校仍将携手共进、将这个合作教育项目越办越好！
Thirdly, please allow me to extend my sincere blessing to our partner—Webster University on her centennial celebration. A century ago, the respectable Sisters of Leretto founded this university with mercy and compassion. They dedicated themselves to the education of frontier poor children. During the next 100 years, they spread their love to more people and innovated their education methods. Till today, Webster University has earned herself the reputation on internationalization and a high quality nonreligious university. Coincidentally, in the early 20th century, China was in a historical turning period, transforming from a closed, feudal, backward society into an open, independent, self-improved one, fighting against social damage, mass starvation. The pioneers of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics founded Shanghai College of Commerce in this tough time when everything needed to be rebuilt. They believed in the idea of saving the country by engaging in industry. Through vicissitudes of life, SUFE has become the way she is today. In two years, SUFE will celebrate her 100th anniversary. 19 years ago, the IMBA program was launched by SUFE and Webster University, which is one of the landmark milestones in the history of China’s MBA education. The National Award of Teaching Achievement by Ministry of Education is the recognition of this program.
